Can you fool an AI?

Draw an animal that does not exist. Can your words help someone else imagine it?

Ages 4–8 with a grown-up. Allow about 20–30 minutes, or go at your own pace.

What you’ll need

Your mission

  1. Invent. Draw a new creature. Maybe it has three wings, spotty feet or a very long nose. Give it an imaginary name.
  2. Notice. Keep your drawing hidden. Describe its shape, colours, size and unusual features to your grown-up. Use only imaginary creature details.
  3. Imagine. Ask the grown-up to sketch what they heard. No device needed! If you choose the AI version, the adult can type the description and ask the tool to describe or draw the creature.
  4. Compare. Reveal your drawing. Which details match? Which did the other person or AI add, miss or change?
  5. Try again. Add one clearer detail to the description. Does the next answer come closer to your idea?
  6. Question. Ask whether the creature is real or imagined. If an AI claims it is a real animal, check that claim together in a trusted animal book or other reliable source.

A prompt to try

“Imagine a made-up creature called a Zindle. It has three wings, blue spots and tiny orange feet. Describe what you imagine. Is this a real animal, or something we invented?”

Change the imaginary details to fit your drawing.

Talk about what happened

A different picture is not automatically a mistake: words leave room for imagination. A confident claim about a real animal still needs checking. AI can be helpful and creative, and it can get things wrong.

For the grown-up

You manage any optional AI use. Check the tool’s age rules and privacy settings first. Do not create a child account or enter a child’s name, age, school, location, photo, voice or other personal information. Use only fictional creature details; keep the drawing offline.

If an AI gives an unsuitable or confusing answer, stop and use the drawing game instead. Talk through the result together. Completing this mission requires no upload or submission to Toto.
